Finally, the record companies are getting a little more sane and offer ways to download music on the net legally. These dopes could have been making lots of money for years, and more now if they weren't so restrictive, but hey, it's a start.

This page is an attempt to list all the services available, and the pitfalls about them. It will fill in with more detail as I (or some of you) add to the information.

My criteria for an ideal services is every song in the world, good pricing, excellent unprotected files (to aid in backing up and reasonable usage). Well none meet this, mainly in the protection area. However you can get around that if you want to, although you are still breaking the law, but let's not get into the foolishness of congress right now!

To get unprotected files, just burn them to CD, and rip them back out. There is no way I would pay for music that would go away if my machine does (or in buymusic.com's case, even if I change machines!!).
