If you’re not a developer, it’s harder to find links. These seem to work

Also you will need the itunes beta 2 for it to be able to update to this version, at least that’s what I’ve heard.

Finally have an ipad2. Best buy was my store to buy (gift card bound), and it took weeks to get one. First one, light bleed heavy on three corners and sides.

What is light bleed? Scan this thread at MacRumors for many stories, but it’s light appearing from the edges and corners when the screen should be black.

So the store got more weeks later and what do you know another bleeder! So this time I took it back and luckily they had some still there. This time I checked it before I left, and slight bleed on one  corner but too little to worry about.

Yes I paid over 700 for a device with flaws. But I think they have an insoluble problem or it’s not worth fixing because new model(s) are coming. If I were Apple I would not want to invest much if many people just let it go or don’t notice it.

But to be clear mine was quite noticeable. If you don’t believe me, it did pass the wife test, which is the theory that if she notices something that I would be picky about, it’s not picky anymore!

That said I can see why people love this device, it’s very polished. If this one had been bad I would have been tempted quite a bit by the new Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Maybe you don’t. It’s not been too bad, and it’s great to see the new features, but like any beta release it’s buggy. The worst bugs would be data loss, but none of that.

So far I have a radio app that doesn’t work with a station I use (ootunes), netflix will not work, the battery sometimes drains, and just now I plugged in my computer and installed just about all of my apps again for some reason.

But if you’ve got your mind set for adventure, you have to be a developer (pay the $100 fee to apple per year) or have a developer register your phone for running betas. The beta will not run unless you register your device. Developers are allotted 100 slots.

If you visit IMZDL, they will sell you a slot for seven bucks. I’ve used this site to download early releases and got a slot from them, they’ve been really good. I do know a dev but forgot to ask for a slot, but I consider  the seven bucks a donation to the site where I was getting my downloads from anyway (great even if you have apple links  because they’ve got torrent seeds which are very fast).

Good luck but you’re on your own! There have been claims you can’t roll back to a previous OS but I can’t say either way.

Finally, Apple blinked and as reported on MacRumors, they have removed the overly-restrictive terms that forced apps selling content to price the content lowest on apple, and give them their cut. Continue reading »

Vibration is in Accessibility

Sometimes accessibility options options offer some goodies too. In the first beta of IOS 5 there are custom vibration tones. This means a vibration on/off pattern that is used instead of just the steady default. I can see maybe it being useful for anyone in the right circumstance.. Continue reading »
